Huntsman India, a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals, will set up a new secondary school building in Bhamboli village to provide world-class higher education facilities to about 1180 children of classes fifth to twelfth from surrounding eighteen to twenty villages, as part of the commemoration of a decade of operations at its state-of-the-art polyurethane manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune. Commonly known as Bhamchandra Vidyalaya, the current institute has been operational since 1990.
The above predicament is set to change with Huntsman's proposed plan for the new school building. Apart from basic facilities, the school will also be equipped with a unique playground made from recyclable polyurethanes material, state-of-the-art education facilities such as laboratories equipped with STEM learning equipment and offer education in the field of information and communication technologies. Huntsman will also be providing a bus service for students and considering girls' safety travelling long distances to attend school.
"Our site at Chakan has been a beacon of success since its inception 10 years ago. It is equipped with cutting-edge technology and manufactures safe and sustainable solutions for businesses worldwide. I thoroughly appreciate the hard work and effort of each and every team member toward the smooth functioning of the factory. We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone anniversary, and we are confident that our polyurethane business will continue to flourish and achieve stellar recognition in the years to come. We are also delighted to further deepen our relationship with the people of Chakan by setting up a state-of-the-art secondary school for the young and talented children of our region. We look forward to igniting young minds, upskilling and educating hundreds of students for the next decade and beyond," said Rahul Tikoo, MD, India Subcontinent, Huntsman International (India).
Chakan is a key manufacturing base for Huntsman globally and one of the large production sites of the company in India. It has been built adhering to global standards and is equipped with all necessary technologies to ensure safe and environment-friendly operations. This site hosts the MDI-based Polyurethanes business units' production facilities that serve over 500 customers in neighbouring countries in the footwear, automotive and construction space.
Over the past few years, the site has focused on optimal use of resources to ensure minimum impact on the environment and promote sustainable development. This manufacturing site stands out for its exemplary work in helping the community located in and around the plant in Chakan.
