Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India, announced that it has completed the process for phase 1 of its tender to procure 10,000 electric vehicles. At 10,000 numbers, the tender floated by EESL is the world's largest single electric vehicle procurement initiative.
Post the tender opening, Tata Motors had emerged as the lowest bidder and Mahindra as the second lowest bidder. Mahindra has agreed to match the lowest bidding pricing for phase I and has therefore, qualified to supply 150 electric vehicles, as per the tender conditions.
As per the order, EESL will source 150 electric vehicles from Mahindra in phase I. The delivery date of electric vehicles for phase I is 30th November 2017 (8 weeks from LOA).
The purchase orders for supply of 9500 electric vehicles in phase II will be issued on completion of phase I deliveries. Both qualified parties, Tata Motors and Mahindra, will have the opportunity to supply their respective number of vehicles, as per the terms of the tender and Mahindra matching the lowest bid pricing for phase II.
