Bhadresh Dani, VP, Drives & Automation, Bharat Bijlee speaks to ET Polymers about 10,000th drive that the company delivered.

Rolling out the 10,000th drive is an achievement. Can you please tell us about this journey?

This journey began in 2007 when we partnered with Karl E Brinkmann gmbh (now KEB Automation KG). We started with importing drives and selling them in the Indian market. In 2012, we extended our partnership with KEB by forging a manufacturing alliance. We started assembly of drives having capacity ranging from 15-900KW. We have also set up a world class service centre to repair drives supplied to our customers as well as drives supplied by KEB to global OEMs. Presently, we support an installed base of around 18,000-20,000 drives in India. When I look back at the journey, I think it has been a great learning experience. Through this, we learnt about developing high-end and new applications, offering solutions to customers, setting up manufacturing facility and producing drives locally in line  with German standards.

Can you please tell us about your manufacturing facility?

The plant at Navi Mumbai is fully ESD protected. Right from work stations to clothing, and handling boxes and assembly tools are ESD safe. We carry out regular tests to ensure the health of ESD protection. Assembly and storage areas are air-conditioned to ensure dust free environment. Proper tools are used to ensure the specified torque values. These tools are tested and validated on monthly basis to ensure the correctness of tightening. Each assembled drive is thoroughly tested on automated test system
as per the KEB test procedure. We also have testing capabilities where drives are tested to check I/O and basic drive functionality This facility can test up to 250KW drives through green regenerative system at elevated temperature of 50oC. Our employees are trained at KEB Germany before commencing assembly.
