With an increasing degree of process control and the issue of how can manufacturing be tuned to transform India, Ipsita Dasgupta highlighted, "India has certain advantages in the form of South-South trade, entrepreneurial vision, and ability to integrate with the changing world.
However, the biggest deterrent holding us back is our ability and desire to unleash our potential. With changing world dynamics, there is a huge market for niche consumers and need to have both vocational courses and specialized courses like MPMO."
Rajendra Srivastava exclaimed that India is a huge market which is very attractive to the world. To build brand India and move up the value curve, we need to focus on manufacturing for India by India and process innovation to improve productivity in a financially constrained economy. So there is an ever growing demand to undertake both product and process innovation.
Indian manufacturing has to be cost competitive to achieve scale and compete with the world. The focus should be on the ‘zero effect, zero defect concept by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Keeping in view the sustainability angle, the sector needs more people with know-how to identify market opportunities, and pursue them to build the right products and manufacturing capabilities.
