Tata Power establishes a strong foothold in India and abroad

It's generation capacity stands at 11974MUs in FY15; CGPL reported higher generation capacity of 26,578MUs in FY15

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, today announced that the company's standalone generation capacity stands at 11974MUs (million units) in FY15.

The company, together with all its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has an installed generation capacity of 8750MW from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery, thereby, reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.

Overall, in FY15, CGPL reported total generation of 26,578MUs in FY15, while Maithon plant reported 6328MUs. TPREL generated 296MUs. In clean and green energy, Tata Power's hydro power stations generated 1443MUs, Wind farms generated 635MUs, and solar plants recorded generation of 4MU.

Commenting on this development, Anil Sardana, MD and CEO, Tata Power, stated, "We have been consistently achieving significant milestones and will continue to enhance our generation portfolio. We are glad that all our operations have performed well and have demonstrated a robust growth. We will continue in our endeavors to further strengthen our operations with excellence and optimally utilise our resources to boost the generation capacity to 18000 MW and 4000 MW of distribution by 2022."

The company has a significant presence in the clean energy sector with a gross installed capacity of 1383MW. Today, Tata Power has a total operating capacity of 511MW from wind farms and 56MW in solar generation. In addition, the company has 576MW of hydro and 240MW from waste gas based generation.

Tata Power recently commissioned 2 units (63 MW each) of its 126MW Dagachhu hydro power corporation (DHPC) in Bhutan. The company also entered into a share purchase agreement (SPA) with Tata Africa Holdings (SA) (Pty) Ltd. for formalising the acquisition of their 50 percent shareholding in Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation Ltd (ITPC) signed MoU with Russian Direct Investment Fund to increase Energy Investment between India and Russia, and won a 100 MW NTPC solar project.
