Upbeat auto sector expects larger growth in FY16

For the first time in three years, car sales grew in FY 15 to the extent of 4.99%. Industry is now looking at a double-digit growth in the current fiscal.

First time in three years, car sales grew in FY15 by 4.99 per cent to 1.87 million units

In tandem with the growing demand for two wheelers and light passenger vehicles, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), Honda's motorcycle production and sales subsidiary in India, and Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), Honda's automobile production and sales subsidiary in India, have each decided to expand annual production capacity in line with the expected continued future growth of the Indian market. HMSI will expand its 3rd motorcycle production plant, and HCIL will expand its 2nd automobile production plant, both currently under operation.

Mazda's overseas production increased 118.9 per cent

Mazda's total domestic production volume in February 2015 decreased 6.2 per cent compared to February 2014 due to decreased production of passenger vehicles. The production figures stood at 27,183 units for CX-5, 15,112 units for Mazda3 (Axela), and 12,411 units for Mazda6 (Atenza). 

Mazda's overseas production volume in February 2015 increased 118.9 per cent year-on-year due to increased production of both passenger and commercial vehicles.

Its total domestic sales volume in February 2015 decreased 3.7 per cent year-on-year, due to reduced sales of both passenger and commercial vehicles. The registered vehicle market share was 7.0 per cent (up 1.2 points year-on-year), with a 2.4 per cent share of the micro mini segment (down 0.3 points year-on-year) and a 5.1 per cent total market share (up 0.5 points year-on-year).

Mazda's export volume in February 2015 decreased 8.2 per cent year-on-year, reflecting reduced shipments to North America, Europe, and other regions.

Maruti Suzuki clocks the highest annual sale ever

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited joined the high run and sold a total of 111,555 units in March 2015. This includes 103,719 units in domestic market and 7836 units in exports. The Company had sold a total of 113,350 units in March 2014.
The Company's total sale in 2014-15 was 1,292,415 units. This is the highest annual sale ever by the Company. The previous high was in 2010-11, when the Company had sold 1,271,005 units.

Domestic sale in 2014-15, at 1,170,702 units, was also the highest ever for the Company.

This is despite its decision to recall 33,098 vehicles because internal inspection yielded fault with the ‘right hand door latch assembly' of 33,098 vehicles, comprising 19,780 units of Alto 800 and 13,318 units of Alto K10.


Audi India has the best-ever financial year sales

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, added yet another chapter to its success story in India, by retaining the number one position for the second consecutive financial year in a row.

The brand with the four rings crossed this historic milestone by registering a sale of 11292 units in the period April 2014 - March 2015 with a growth of +11.51 percent. It sold 10126 units over the April 2013 - March 2014 period.

"We are very happy to retain the leadership position in the luxury car market for two consecutive years despite having only one major launch (Audi A3) in the last fiscal year. This clearly demonstrates the strength of the brand. We are now looking forward to an exciting 2015 with 10 new models including the Audi TT and new Audi Q3 coming up," said Joe King, Head, Audi India.
