Major growth in EV-related searches: Justdial's analysis

Non-metro cities show an increase of 141 per cent in EV-related searches

Justdial, India's leading local search engine, analysed search data of EV-related categories which reveals increase in searches from January 2022 to August 2024, mirroring the surge in EV sales. 

According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), the year-on-year market share of electric passenger vehicles doubled to 2.6 per cent in March 2023, up from 1.3 per cent in March 2022. Overall sales of electric passenger vehicles surged to 90,996 units in 2023-24, registering a 91 per cent increase compared to the 47,551 units sold in FY23. Five months into FY2025, EV retail sales have already reached 733,000 units, accounting for 43 per cent of the previous fiscal year's total of 1.68 million units.

Justdial saw a nationwide increase of 220 per cent in EV-related searched from January –August 2022 to the same period in 2023. The growth in metro cities was 223 per cent while in non-metro areas it was 187 per cent with Coimbatore witnessing a 178 per cent rise in searches. Searched grew to eight times their previous levels in metro cities like Hyderabad, while in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Jaipur, searches increased to 3, 2, and 2 times, respectively. Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata also showed increases of 179 per cent, 166 per cent, and 117 per cent, respectively.

However, non-metro cities witnessed an increase of 141 per cent in comparison to metro cities' 71 per cent growth from January 2023 to August 2024. Indore saw a 379 per cent rise, followed by Patna 230 per cent and Surat 143 per cent. Chennai and Kolkata experienced 268 per cent and 143 per cent growth respectively.

Electric bikes on rent witnessed a surging demand amongst other EV vehicles with Hyderabad's search volume increasing to 18 times its previous level. This was followed by Ahmedabad and Bangalore, where searches rose to 5 times and 4 times their previous levels, respectively. Electric vehicle dealers also experienced a growth of 203 per cent, while electric car dealers saw 55 per cent rise. (January-August 2022 vs. January-August 2023)

For the comparison years January-August 2023 vs. January-August 2024, electric vehicle dealers noted a 151 per cent growth nationwide, with Delhi leading at 146 per cent, while electric bus manufacturers grew by 142 per cent.
