Associates at Honda Power Equipment Mfg., Inc. (HPE) have marked 35 years of producing power equipment products in America by announcing a $46.4 million investment to expand the Swepsonville, N.C. plant's manufacturing capabilities. HPE also announced plans to begin production in September of an all-new Honda HRN lawn mower.
The new investment strengthens HPE's productive technologies at the North Carolina plant and includes a production line for Honda's new GCV multifunctional engine and an extension of 135,000 square feet for the storage of parts in the plant. The facilities already have the capacity to produce two million multifunctional motors per year, including the GCV, specifically designed for applications in premium residential electrical equipment.
"For more than 35 years, Honda associates in North Carolina have manufactured high-quality electrical equipment that enriches human life," said Shane McCoy, senior vice president of HPE. "The decision to invest in the Honda plant in Swepsonville is part of Honda's traditional approach: create products close to the customer and endorse its strong commitment to North Carolina ."
In addition to the investment and expansion announced today, HPE invested $ 10.5 million in an expansion of 116,000 square feet in facilities, announced in February 2018, which today supports the assembly and storage of parts. Once the renovation is complete, the area will house the new engine line. Honda has invested $ 350 million in total at the North Carolina plant .
HPE is one of Honda's most productive plants in the world, as its annual capacity manufactures more than two million Honda multifunctional engines and 500,000 finished products, such as electric mowers, snow removal machines, brushcutters, mini tillers and generators , all with the Honda seal.
HPE began manufacturing electric clippers in 1984, being the third Honda plant in the United States, with cumulative production that today exceeds 38 million products for Honda customers inside and outside the country.
Many Honda Power Equipment products, including the new HRN pruner, are designed by the Honda R&D Americas, Inc. Power Equipment Division in its center in North Carolina , adjacent to the Haw River Honda Power Equipment Manufacturing plant in the same state.
