John Cockerill India and SAIL unite for sustainable steelmaking

This strategic collaboration will see John Cockerill India Limited and SAIL explore joint initiatives to promote advanced solutions for the steel industry in India.

John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL), a pioneer in industrial engineering, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India's largest government-owned steel producer and a leading global resources company, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This strategic collaboration will see John Cockerill India Limited and SAIL explore joint initiatives to promote advanced solutions for the steel industry in India. 

The MoU focuses on transforming iron and steelmaking processes and deploying sustainable green steel solutions in the country. Key areas of collaboration include exploring a joint venture in cold rolling and processing for carbon steel, including green steel and silicon steel (CRGO, CRNO), analysing the integration of green hydrogen into iron and steelmaking, and incorporating John Cockerill's innovative processing technologies into SAIL's future projects.

To decarbonise the steel industry, collective action and shared expertise are essential. This partnership allows John Cockerill to leverage combined strengths and innovative capabilities to significantly reduce carbon emissions and shape a more sustainable and competitive steel sector in India. The Group remains committed to assisting India's steel industry in its transition towards greener, more sustainable production processes. The MoU underscores a shared commitment to addressing environmental challenges while enhancing the competitiveness of India's steel industry.
