Through its ContiConnect sensor generation, Continental offers automated tread depth measurement for the first time which will enable fleet operators to obtain updated data on the rate of wear of their commercial vehicle tires. Continental determines the tread depth with a new generation of tire sensors and AI-based algorithms which enable fleet operators to plan tire maintenance or changes
Combining AI-based algorithms, planning for upcoming tire services for individual commercial vehicles and entire fleets can be done. The company will present the new solutions to the public at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover from September 17 to 22.
Commenting on ContiConnect's impact in reduction of fleet costs, Clarisa Doval, Head - Digital Solutions, Continental Tires, said, "Changing a tire too early results in unnecessary wear and higher costs. Changing it too late reduces safety and increases fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Our solution – the combination of the sensor tread depth measurement and our predictive models – enables fleets to further increase their efficiency and their sustainability."
The ContiConnect digital tire management is structured in two solutions, namely, ContiConnect Lite and ContiConnect Pro. The ContiConnect Lite is based on a mobile app which is equipped with data-supporting tire monitoring. The data from the tire sensors, such as air pressure and tire temperature, is transmitted via Bluetooth to the ContiConnect app on the smartphone whereas, ContiConnect Pro offers an overview of the tire condition of the fleet, including warnings, and displays the data in a web portal and an app.
