PSA Group exploring acquisition of Opel Vauxhall

Talks with GM also include numerous strategic initiatives

The PSA Group is exploring the potential acquisition of Opel Vauxhall from General Motors. A press statement from General Motors has confirmed that both Companies ‘are exploring numerous strategic initiatives aiming at improving profitability and operational efficiency, including a potential acquisition of Opel Vauxhall by PSA. There can be no assurance that an agreement will be reached.'

The Statement also shared that both companies have been implementing an alliance covering, to date, three projects in Europe and generating substantial synergies for the two groups since 2012. "Within this framework, General Motors and PSA Group regularly examine additional expansion and cooperation possibilities, as well," it said. The PSA Group too has confirmed the development in an official statement.

In the meanwhile, PSA has also acquired the Ambassador Car brand in India from Hindustan Motors parent company, C K Birla. It has also signed an agreement with the C K Birla Group who will build cars for PSA in India.
