CII and BMGI presents innovation as the key catalyst for Make in India at the 5th Manufacturing Innovation Conclave

He suggested the key was to have an ecosystem and referred to TCS' initiative of a homegrown social network, providing forums for various events, competitions to drive the culture while recognising and incubating ideas.

What does it take to convert an invention into an innovation? Varun Gadhok, Country Head - Manufacturing Solutions, India & SAARC, Autodesk India Pvt Ltd., in his perception about 'The Innovation Genome (TIG) - Making organisation powerful', shared the invention genome initiative by Autodesk. He emphasised on how having the three essentials are very crucial for innovation, which are - toolset (which can be externally bought at any point of time), skillset (which can be hired and groomed) and mindset (which can only be created from within).

Can we make the logic world and the manufacturing world talk? Gautam Dutta, Senior Director - Marketing, Siemens Industry Software (India) Private Limited, showed how this is possible in his speech about 'Innovation - making organisation future ready by leveraging digital marketing'. As he stated the fact that 'there is a dearth of aspiration to join the manufacturing industry', he expressed how talents are lost to other fields and thus creating a decline in the evolution of manufacturing industry.

Archana Shahrawat, Regional Head - Manufacturing Vertical, Ricoh India Ltd., in her talk on Manufacturing Innovation - its role in creating innovative product line, shared the entire supply chain from transformational requirements from design to manufacturing to after sales supply chain; key factors for production and their implications for modern manufacturing - time, quality and cost.

Nirmalya Banerjee, Business Head at BMGI, moderated the panel discussion that comprised of senior leaders from various industries to share their insights on "Design (R & D) in India - key for success of companies".

Sriram Ramakrishnan,Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Consul Neowatt Power Solutions Pvt Ltd., Vikram S Kasbekar, Head - Operations & Supply Chain, Hero MotoCorp Ltd , Rahul Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Power Ltd (Strategic Engineering Division), Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director & Country Head, Polaris India Private Limited and Raj Singh Rathee, Managing Director, Kuka Robotics India were the panelists. Banerjee asked his panelists if they agreed that innovation was the pathway to realise the dream of 'Make in India'.
