The keyword in today's manufacturing industry is ‘green' or ‘sustainability'. Here are few tips for you to help your company in march in this direction.
Electricity consumption
Having solar roof top panels, biomass energy through gasifier, thermic fluid heater at plants, etc can help the plant go green. However, adapting green practices is not enough. The energy consumption also has to be lowered. "Implementation of Energy Management System in line with ISO50001 by planning, executing, monitoring and reviewing measures for energy utilisation and its continual improvement is one step towards it," said Hans Bangert, Managing Director, Bosch Rexroth India Pvt Ltd.
Rexroth offers "Rexroth 4EE" concept (energy system design, efficient components, Energy recovery, Energy on demand). "From these 4E, the element "efficient component" is relevant for product design while other 3E are for application i.e. how to put a system together in the most energy efficient way. By using this, energy efficiency is optimised in all phases of machine life cycle," Bangert continued
Water & waste water management
On the water front, reducing the usage of water and increasing the use of recycled water are the two important steps. Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) play important role here. Also, rain water harvesting helps save water. Speaking on the initiatives that the company has undertaken with this regard, Bangert said, "We have undertaken many in-house projects and initiatives for conservation of environment e.g. reduction of hazardous waste, recycling of all waste water, rain water harvesting, shifting of the water resource from ground water to surface water, etc."
Additionally, some simple steps such as timely check on plumbing fitting and fixtures to avoid any water leakages also leads to water conservation.
