“Tata Steel adds another 'first' to its kitty”

Tata Steel achieved a new milestone becoming the first Indian steel plant to produce 10 million tonnes per annum (mntpa) of hot metal from a single location.

It's a significant achievement considering that the company started with a capacity of only 0.16 mntpa in 1911. At the time, the company focused on commissioning and up-gradation of A-E blast furnaces.

Today, Tata Steel stands at a production capacity of 10 mntpa, accomplishing a growth of 63 times. This has been achieved through incorporation of innovative operational strategies, leading to annual savings by significant reduction of fuel rate.

Tata Steel is Asia's first integrated private sector steel company and the Group is among the top global steel companies with an annual crude steel capacity of nearly 30 mntpa. It is now the world's second-most geographically-diversified steel producer, with operations in 26 countries and a commercial presence in over 50 countries. The Tata Steel Group, with a turnover of US$ 24.81 billion in FY'14, has over 80,000 employees across five continents and is a Fortune 500 company.
