“UP boy is Volkswagen Group's Best Apprentice”

Recognizing apprentices from across 18 countries that have excelled in Volkswagen Academy's Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme, Volkswagen Group has awarded 43 candidates the ‘Best Apprentice Award' for 2014.

Among these is Anshuman Srivastava from Uttar Pradesh who has been honoured with this title, considered to be among the highest recognitions from Volkswagen Group for consistently delivering excellence through the tenure of the Programme at Volkswagen Academy.

Anshuman is from among 15 apprentices that made up the first batch of the Volkswagen Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme started in 2011. As the only apprentice from India being awarded at this forum in Wolfsburg, Anshuman has done his team proud and now returns to India to be a part of Volkswagen Pune Plant's Body Shop. He will be a member of the team working on Electrical Planning that includes E-plan software, PLC, Robotics, Drive Systems and Automation.

Commenting on Anshuman's achievement, Peter Raussendorf, Executive Director HR & Admin of Volkswagen India Private Limited said, "Volkswagen started the Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme in India with the vision to create skilled workforce for our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. With the recent successful passing out of the first batch that has been absorbed entirely by Volkswagen Pune Plant, and the honour bestowed on Anshuman on the global scale, we are confident that our efforts in this direction are paying off."

He further added, "India is a rapidly evolving market and it's imperative to build the domestic skill base in advance of the wave we are expected to see in the years to come. With this in mind, we continue to invest strategically in our Academy initiative in India and welcome new apprentices to the academy every year."

In recognition of the achievements of the 43 award-winners from across 18 countries invited to Germany, all apprentices were invited to participate in a multi-faceted programme spanning several days. This year's ‘Best Apprentice Award' was the 14th of its kind presented by the Volkswagen Group, and a total of 341 apprentices have been honoured since 2001.
