Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI), a subsidiary of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Japan), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana on 18 April 2025, to advance its previously announced investment of JPY 10 billion (Rs 562 crore) towards expanding manufacturing capabilities in the state.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in Tokyo, in the presence of Shri Anumula Revanth Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, along with Shri Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Industries, ITE&C, and Sports; Shri Emmadi Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Special Secretary, Investment Promotion & External Engagement; Hiroshi Kaneta, Vice President of Grid Solution Division, Corporate Officer, and Corporate Vice President of Toshiba Corporation; and Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of TTDI.
Hiroshi Furuta, CMD, TTDI, said: "This MoU will strengthen Toshiba's manufacturing footprint in India and contribute to local employment and skill development. With strong support from the Government of Telangana, we are well-positioned to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities and deliver high-quality, sustainable energy solutions for India and beyond."
As part of the MoU, the proposed investment of Rs 562 crore is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs across three years from FY2024, further supporting the socio-economic development of the region. TTDI and the Government of Telangana have also expressed a shared intent to explore future opportunities for growth and diversification, while jointly promoting skill development initiatives to nurture local talent and strengthen the industrial ecosystem.
This strategic MoU reaffirms Toshiba's long-term commitment to India and aligns with the ‘Make in India' and ‘Export from India' initiatives. The investment will expand TTDI's manufacturing presence in Hyderabad by scaling up assembly and testing capacities for both distribution and power transformers. It will also enhance export capabilities to meet rising global and domestic demand.
Additionally, the project will establish a state-of-the-art facility aimed at increasing vertical integration, reducing lead times, and improving product quality, workplace safety, and operational efficiency.
With a firm emphasis on quality, innovation, and sustainability, TTDI has already exported India-manufactured transformers to over 50 countries, reinforcing its role as a global hub for transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment. TTDI remains committed to supporting global efforts towards carbon neutrality and to advancing resilient infrastructure for electric utilities and manufacturers worldwide.
