“Schneider Electric and SBPDCL transform Bihar's power distribution with smart grid solutions”

Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has partnered with South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL) to modernize and enhance Bihar's power distribution infrastructure. This collaboration marks a major milestone in delivering reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions to the people of Bihar.

With increasing energy demand, SBPDCL faced challenges in ensuring seamless and reliable power distribution. The need for modernization was crucial to managing the electrical distribution system effectively and providing uninterrupted power supply to consumers.

Schneider Electric's advanced EcoStruxure Grid solutions played a pivotal role in overcoming these challenges by enabling robust monitoring capabilities and ensuring 24/7 operational uptime. The partnership has resulted in significant improvements:

  • 90 per cent enhancement in power reliability
  • Up to 80 per cent reduction in energy consumption
  • 60 per cent energy cost savings
  • 70 per cent optimisation in engineering cost and time

As part of the project, Schneider Electric established a state-of-the-art Command-and-Control Centre and Disaster Recovery Centre, enabling real-time monitoring and decision-making for improved grid connectivity and reliability. The deployment included 305 Ring Main Units (RMUs) for enhanced distribution reliability and 550 Fault Passage Indicators (FPIs) on overhead lines to improve fault detection and response times.
