“Walter Tools expands standard range with new PCD milling cutters for non-ferrous metal machining”

Walter is enhancing its expertise in machining non-ferrous metals with the introduction of new PCD milling cutters. As most PCD tools are typically customised solutions, Walter is expanding its standard ISO N range with the solid MP271 and MP470 milling cutters.

The three-edged MP271 slot drill cutter (Ø 16-25 mm), with a segmented cutting edge length of 30 mm and a centre cutting edge, is ideal for deep depths of cut—such as when trimming—and minimises vibrations thanks to its differential pitch. The double-edged spherical cutter MP470 (Ø 4-16 mm) is designed for creating and finishing free-form surfaces.

Both PCD milling cutters have been specifically developed for ISO N materials such as aluminium, Al-Si alloys, magnesium alloys, copper alloys, and fibre composites. Walter's proprietary PCD grade WDN20 can, in many cases, significantly extend tool life. The brazed PCD cutting edges are also suitable for reconditioning, which—together with the substantial extension of tool life—enhances sustainability, reduces cutting material costs, and improves overall cost-effectiveness.

Thanks to their specific properties, these PCD milling cutters are particularly valuable for aluminium machining in general mechanical engineering, as well as in the automotive and aviation industries.
