Honeywell Automation India Limited (HAIL) recently delivered and commissioned a microgrid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the Solar Energy Corporation of India's (SECI) Lakshwadeep islands projects.
The Lakshwadeep islands project is India's first on-grid solar initiative that uses BESS to manage the supply of renewable power. The BESS technologies are being incorporated into the microgrid of the Karavatti islands. The technology includes a solution that controls automation, safety and efficiency aspects and a facility that enables the utility of renewable power in a microgrid that can co-exist alongside national grid supply.
Along with BESS sub-systems, the company is also supplying its Energy Management Systems (EMS)/ Microgrid controller and Power Plant controller to distribute renewable energy for the Lakshwadeep project. The 1.7MWp Solar and 1.4 MWh BESS-enabled project aims to save Rs 25,000, reduce diesel consumption by 19.8 million litres and offset 58,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The project was inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Honeywell delivered the solution to SunSource Energy Private Limited for its contract from Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd.
