India's Semiconductor ambitions soar at SemiconIndia 2023

External Affairs Minister highlights India's growing role in critical technologies at the electronics conference.

At the three-day SemiconIndia 2023 conference, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised India's significance in critical and emerging technologies, particularly in the electronics sector, especially semiconductors. He highlighted India's growing presence as a trusted global electronics manufacturing partner, emphasizing international collaborations with the US, Japan, Australia, and other like-minded countries.

The conference witnessed diverse participation from industry, start-ups, academia, and the government. Insightful sessions and engaging talks discussed crucial aspects of semiconductor manufacturing and steps taken to develop a robust, resilient, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem.

India's commitment to equitable growth and shared future for all was highlighted during a dedicated panel discussion on "International Collaboration for Trusted and Resilient Semiconductor Supply Chain." Experts explored the potential of global partnerships in enhancing the semiconductor industry, with a focus on India's role in manufacturing, research, talent exchange, clean energy transitions, and critical minerals exploration.

Other discussions delved into opportunities and challenges in emerging technologies, catalysing India's techade, readiness assessment for the semiconductor ecosystem, global semiconductor talent capital, and creating a globally competitive compliance and regulatory framework.

Jaya Jagadish, AMD India, gave the closing remarks, noting India's position at the forefront of the future of semiconductors. The second edition of SemiconIndia has set India on the path to becoming a global hub for electronics and semiconductors, focusing on innovation, skilled talent, and support for startups and R&D.

SemiconIndia 2023 has positioned India as a key player in shaping the future of technology, particularly in semiconductors, engaging global leaders and academia in this transformative journey.
