SKF India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) for the accreditation of SKF India's YES centres. ASDC is the first sector Skill Council of India which works tirelessly on developing and upgrading automotive skills leading to more economic activity and consequent additional jobs. YES- Youth Empowerment at SKF is a flagship corporate social responsibility program by SKF India which was initiated in 2015 with a view to create a positive change in the life of communities. Marking its presence in cities like Pune, Bengaluru, Jorhat, Haridwar and soon at Ahmadabad, followed by an investment of 120 million per centre in Machines, equipment's Vehicles tools, cut models and computers, YES is a program for vocational skill development of the underprivileged youth to empower them through improved skills and knowledge and help them gain access to employment or enable them to start their own venture.
The MoU was handed over by Manish Bhatnagar MD, SKF India Limited and Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC at YES centre Bengaluru during the convocation ceremony of 71 students of various YES Batches. The MoU stands as a sign of improved employability of youth beneficiaries in the automotive segment from existing and proposed YES centres across India.
Commenting on the occasion, Manish Bhatnagar MD SKF India Limited said "It is indeed a good opportunity to have YES accredited with ASDC. Owing to a spurt in the growth of the automotive sector, this accreditation will further help us in enhancing our efforts towards adding skilled workforce to new India. In addition to this our primary vision with this accreditation is to bring about a positive change in the life of the communities."
Sharing his thoughts on the partnership, Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC said, "We are extremely delighted to partner with Automotive major, SKF, in our commitment towards Skilling and Higher Value Addition of the workforce in India. ASDC and SKF will collaboratively skill the youth in the Service domain at SKF facilities in Pune, Bangalore, Haridwar and Jorhat. Looking forward to many milestones!"
Vivek, one of the beneficiaries of YES said, "YES has brought about a very positive change in my life. It gave a concrete direction towards my passion for automobile. The training program gave me a lot of knowledge and understanding of various sectors of automotive industry like Vehicle Service, Electricals and diagnosing vehicle complaints etc. I am now a skilled technician with the help of YES".
The beneficiaries undergo six months of rigorous and on job training in the automotive two wheeler and four wheeler that help in increasing their employability in OEM Services and multibrand garages. This is 23rd batch and total 514 students have been certified from this centre. Till today 1830 beneficiaries are associated with YES Program in India. SKF provides entrepreneurship training to beneficiary and also support for mentoring and returnable start up fund for the program.
