The partnership aims to jointly explore and pursue opportunities in the construction of commercial vessels and offshore structures, addressing both global markets and India’s evolving maritime needs.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), a prominent private sector entity in commercial and defence shipbuilding, ship repair, and heavy fabrication in India, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE). The MoU, formalised on 7 April 2025 at GRSE Bhavan, marks a significant milestone in fortifying India's indigenous commercial shipbuilding capabilities.

The partnership aims to jointly explore and pursue opportunities in the construction of commercial vessels and offshore structures, addressing both global markets and India's evolving maritime needs. By combining their strengths in design, infrastructure, and project execution, SDHI and GRSE seek to establish a robust and scalable commercial shipbuilding model. The MoU also enables the sharing of facilities, co-development of standard vessel platforms, and coordinated project management approaches, all geared towards enhancing turnaround time and cost-efficiency.

A key focus of the collaboration is the creation of a strong vendor and supply chain ecosystem, driven by synergised sourcing and procurement strategies. Additionally, the agreement places significant emphasis on the development of skilled manpower to sustain the long-term growth of the Indian shipbuilding industry.

Beyond construction, the partnership also encompasses vessel trials and ship repair, laying the foundation for a comprehensive and sustainable model of industrial cooperation.
