ATP is an innovative system designed to integrate network grinding, eroding, and measuring machines from WALTER

With the new "Automated Tool Production (ATP)" system, WALTER now offers an advanced automation solution for cylindrical precision tools. ATP is an innovative system designed to integrate network grinding, eroding, and measuring machines from WALTER, as well as those from other system partners involved in the production process.

Increasing efficiency, staying competitive, and addressing the shortage of skilled workers make higher automation levels essential in industrial production. The new ATP system from WALTER requires no additional floor space, seamlessly integrates into existing system layouts, and serves as an interface for machines from other manufacturers. WALTER has collaborated with strong partners to develop this cutting-edge automation solution.

 Key Components:

The system is controlled using the OPC-UA data model FLAMES and consists of:

- At least one robot cell (ATP ROBOCELL), accessible from the front, for automated loading and unloading of machines.

- At least one autonomous mobile transport robot (ATP AMR) for transporting workpiece pallets and individual parts between storage and processing stations.

- A standardised communication model for seamless interaction between machines and the ATP AMR transport robot.

- A higher-level control system for data and process management.

WALTER customers can retrofit the ATP system into their existing production facilities without modifying their system layout, ensuring seamless adoption.

Automated Tool Processing, Measurement, and Correction:

A dedicated removal station enables in-process exchange of individual parts between the measuring and processing machines, allowing automatic corrections and fully closed-loop processes. The ATP ROBOCELL features a multi-range gripper, which enhances system flexibility by accommodating a wide range of workpiece diameters without requiring gripper changes. Additionally, it can exchange collets simultaneously.

"We have developed this innovative system in close cooperation with strong partners. Our expertise in tool machining and measurement, combined with our partners' automation know-how, enables us to offer customers a state-of-the-art automation solution in every respect, explains Simon Kümmerle, Strategic Product Manager, Grinding Technology at WALTER.
