A key highlight was the launch of the concept demo of the Overhead Automated Charging Device (OH-ACD), an indigenous design developed in association with IIT Madras.

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, announced the dates for the Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT 2026), launched the concept demo of an Overhead Automated Charging Device (OH-ACD), and exchanged an MoU with the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID). The event took place at Bharat Mandapam in the esteemed presence of the Hon'ble Minister of Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The event also saw participation from Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, and Dr Sarvanan, ARAI Governing Council President (CTO, Ashok Leyland). ARAI's collaboration with FSID aims to foster innovation, research and development, technology development, testing and validation, and engineering services.

A key highlight was the launch of the concept demo of the Overhead Automated Charging Device (OH-ACD), an indigenous design developed in association with IIT Madras. This revolutionary fast-charging solution employs cutting-edge pantograph systems to deliver seamless, high-speed charging for zero-emission vehicles, including electric trucks and buses. Capable of 600kW charging power at 1000V and 600A, OH-ACD represents a blend of advanced technology, robust design, and user-friendly features, marking a significant milestone in India's transition to green mobility. With input from stakeholders, this system could form the basis for national regulatory standards.

ARAI's participation at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 spans three venues: Stall H11-04 at Bharat Mandapam, H2-02 at Yashobhoomi, and H1-A14 at the India Expo Centre & Mart. The organisation is showcasing its innovations in green mobility, safety technologies, and a diverse service portfolio, including: an in-house ADAS validation platform; a light commercial vehicle with an e-axle; a 117 HP engine for European clients; a management system training kit; and a hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain.

ARAI's OH-ACD is on display alongside a variety of projects and technologies instrumental in defining India's readiness for faster green mobility adoption. The Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) bike, lightweight components from ARAI's Fatigue Material Centre of Excellence, and engine models are also being featured.

Dr. Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, said: "It is an honour to host the Hon'ble Minister Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy for these landmark announcements and launches. Support from the Ministry of Heavy Industries has enabled ARAI to expand its portfolio and facilities to better serve the automotive industry. ARAI remains a cornerstone for homologation, developmental testing, and standardisation while driving innovation in sustainable mobility. Technologies like the overhead automated charging device and hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain exemplify our commitment to creating a greener future."
