Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India's premium smart mobility solutions provider, transported 26 per cent of its total domestic wholesale volumes through rail freight in CY 2024, amounting to 1,56,724 units. This initiative has resulted in the prevention of 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions in CY 2024 by optimising the use of rail freight over road freight in logistics. Notably, 100 per cent of dispatches to the North-East region of India were conducted via rail.
Commenting on the achievement, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, "At HMIL, we have been relentless in our pursuit of promoting sustainability across all facets of our operations, whether it be manufacturing, dispatches, sales, or after-sales support. By leveraging Indian Railways' extensive rail network to deliver Hyundai vehicles from our plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, to multiple locations across India, we have successfully prevented 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions in CY 2024, dispatching 1,56,724 units in the process. With the Government of India continuously upgrading rail infrastructure through dedicated freight corridors and modern, energy-efficient rolling stock to ensure faster movement of goods, HMIL remains committed to maximising rail freight usage in its logistics operations, contributing to long-term emissions reduction."
Over the last four years (CY 2021–2024), HMIL has cumulatively dispatched 5,37,499 units via rail, effectively preventing 63,452 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
