India and Sweden achieved a significant milestone in their shared mission towards decarbonisation and environmental sustainability at the 2nd India-Sweden Sustainability Day 2024, held on 13 December.

Organised by Team Sweden in India, the event united key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to exchange ideas and chart strategic pathways for industrial transition and sustainability.

A key highlight of the day was the panel discussion, "Breaking Barriers: Innovative Approaches to Sustainability in High-Emission Sectors," featuring leaders from Atlas Copco, Alleima, Tata Power, Hindustan Petroleum, and the Mahindra Group. Additionally, the session "Impact: Unlocking a Sustainable Future Driven by India-Sweden Collaboration" showcased success stories from Volvo Group, Affectus AB, Kalyani Steel, and BSES, underscoring the depth of ongoing bilateral efforts.

Sweden's commitment to decarbonisation, particularly in energy-intensive industries like cement, automotive, and steel, continues to set global benchmarks. With Sweden targeting carbon neutrality by 2045 and India aspiring for net-zero emissions by 2070, this partnership brings Swedish technological expertise together with India's dynamic economy to drive transformative change.

The event also celebrated impactful collaborations, such as the India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator and the Green Hydrogen Cluster, fostering innovation through Sweden's proven Triple Helix Model, which unites academia, government, and industry.

Sven Östberg, Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, remarked, "Sweden has the innovations and smart solutions that India requires to transition into a green economy. This symbiotic relationship will only strengthen through our ongoing efforts."

Reaffirming the collaboration's significance, Christian Kamill, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, said, "Together, Sweden and India can set global benchmarks in sustainable innovation, combining our technologies and ambitions to build a greener future."

The event inspired participants with forward-thinking strategies and underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing climate challenges.
