TKIL Industries Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as thyssenkrupp Industries India Pvt. Ltd.), a prominent player in industrial engineering and manufacturing, has made a significant foray into the green hydrogen sector, marking a milestone in its diversification journey. The company has made an undisclosed strategic investment in SoHHytec SA, a Swiss company based in Lausanne. SoHHytec is a leading innovator in green hydrogen technology, leveraging its proprietary artificial photosynthesis (photo-electrolysis) system to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind for industrial applications.
SoHHytec currently holds the world record for the highest direct solar hydrogen production efficiency and boasts the most cost-efficient technology for green hydrogen production globally. Under this partnership, TKIL Industries will serve as the exclusive partner in India, responsible for manufacturing and supplying specific equipment and machinery and implementing green hydrogen projects. The collaboration also includes developing a domestic supply chain for green hydrogen equipment and advancing the 'Make in India' initiative for this critical sector.
This partnership brings SoHHytec's groundbreaking technology to India for the first time, with the potential to transform the country's energy landscape. The collaboration aligns with India's push towards a hydrogen economy, accelerating the transition to cleaner energy while supporting the nation's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Vivek Bhatia, Managing Director and CEO of TKIL Industries, said, "Expanding into high-growth sectors focused on sustainability and emissions reduction is central to our strategy. Green hydrogen is vital for enabling the green transition of hard-to-abate sectors. Our collaboration with SoHHytec represents a significant step in our commitment to a low-carbon, sustainable future. By combining SoHHytec's advanced technology with our industrial expertise, we aim to accelerate green hydrogen production in India and support the ‘Make in India' initiative for this critical sector. The market response has been phenomenal, and we expect to announce our first orders shortly."
Dr Saurabh Tembhurne, CEO and Founder of SoHHytec, remarked, "We are excited to partner with TKIL Industries to make green hydrogen a scalable energy solution for India. Our technology leads the market in terms of cost efficiency and flexibility, offering off-grid capabilities and integration with renewable energy sources. Additionally, our solution is highly recyclable and can be developed primarily with locally sourced materials, aligning perfectly with India's energy transition goals."
The green hydrogen produced will cater to essential industrial sectors such as steel, fertilisers, biochemicals, cement, and transportation, all critical to India's energy transition and decarbonisation objectives. SoHHytec's technology already offers approximately 50 per cent cost savings per kilometre compared to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, demonstrating its transformative potential.
This collaboration supports India's National Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position the country as a global leader in green hydrogen by 2030. Together, TKIL Industries and SoHHytec will develop and deploy state-of-the-art hydrogen production projects in key industrial regions across India, ensuring scalability and broad adoption.
India aims to scale green hydrogen production to approximately 7.5 million tonnes annually by 2030, meeting domestic energy demands and driving decarbonisation efforts. Green hydrogen is set to play a pivotal role in achieving these goals, particularly in sectors such as heavy industry and transportation, which are challenging to decarbonise.
This partnership underscores TKIL Industries' and SoHHytec's commitment to advancing India's green energy transition and contributing to a sustainable global energy future.
