It seemed that Royal Enfield would see the end of its road in 2000 - one year short of completing its hundred years (it was started in 1901). But Siddhartha Lal had different plans and a different vision for the Company.

And in the next fourteen years, he has worked meticulously and diligently to translate that vision into a reality. The way he has turned around the Royal Enfield brand is stuff legends are made of.

With the surge in demand for Royal Enfield motorcycles in recent years, the overall production capacity has been increased to 175,000 motorcycles for 2013 and 250,000 motorcycles in 2014. Of course, if you ask him, Siddhartha Lal would say that this is just the beginning. "We have set our sights on becoming the leaders in global mid-sized motorcycling segment and we are working towards it persistently," he says.

And by the way, Royal Enfield is just one part of the Eicher Group and Siddhartha is equally attentive to the other businesses. In fact, he's been more than attentive. VECV is today the third largest Commercial Vehicles' (CV) player in India and has ambitions to drive modernisation in commercial transportation and become a leading trucks and buses company in India and emerging world markets.

Siddhartha has been steering this Company's growth first as a CEO and now as the Chairman. VECV has been growing steadily; in this quarter, it has again outpaced the industry in both LMD and Buses segment.

At the same time, the Eicher-Polaris JV is also on course for the launch in 2015.

For his vision in this industry, Siddhartha is also a young global leader at World Economic Forum co-championing the initiative ‘Transforming Urban Mobility' and is also a part of the newly formed Next Generation Leaders Board at Indian School of Business.
